"MEDI-Message" is an event that started in 2008 with the aim of creating a better medical environment and creating medical leaders. In addition to a plan to reproduce and demonstrate the operating room, we have developed it as a place where local people can enjoy the world of medical care through hands-on experience corners and talk shows by active doctors. This year, as a new initiative, we held a school business trip type program "MEDI-Message Seminar" at a junior high school in Shizuoka prefecture.
November 17, 2021. At Shizuoka Kita Junior High School in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka City, there was a completely different class scene. Students dressed in protective clothing and holding medical equipment. Sometimes seriously, sometimes with a smile, I work hard on medical devices.
The "MEDI-Message Seminar" was held. It is a school trip type program of "MEDI-Message" that has provided an opportunity to learn about medical care while experiencing real medical technology.
It has been about a month and a half since the state of emergency was lifted. We were able to reach this day while considering the pros and cons of holding the event many times and reviewing the preventive measures and management system for the new coronavirus.
It is run by the employees of Kyowa Medical Corporation. He himself wears a yellow protective suit and responds. Some employees have experienced MEDI-Message over the past few years, while others are experiencing operation for the first time. We held a careful rehearsal for this day and played a role in teaching the mechanism and operation method of medical equipment with each feeling in mind.
"MEDI-Message," which started as a CSR activity by Kyowa Medical Corporation, has evolved into an activity in which medical organizations and government agencies work together to tackle the major issue of creating leaders for regional medical care. However, the event was postponed for two years due to the new coronavirus. I thought about what I could do in this situation, and came to the realization of a business trip program that had been planned for some time.
"Doctor Talk LIVE" was held prior to the experience of medical technology. Only third graders will attend this venue in consideration of measures to prevent infection with the new coronavirus. First and second graders will be watching LIVE online from each classroom.
The coordinator at the venue was Professor Toshihiko Kobayashi, who also works as an executive committee member of MEDI-Message. As the vice chairman of the Shizuoka Medical Association and the director of the Medical Welfare Support Center of Hamamatsu University Hospital, he is active in improving the medical environment in Shizuoka Prefecture and creating leaders.
The theme is "To the next generation of people who will lead the medical field." This theme reflects Dr. Kobayashi's desire to be interested not only in doctors but also in various professions that are responsible for medical care.
The questions asked by Professor Kobayashi are answered by the teachers at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine behind the screen. There are three teachers, Dr. Naro Ohashi (Nephrology), a second-year intern doctor, Dr. Ryo Kamiya, and Dr. Nanako Kato. Talk LIVE was going on by connecting online with the only medical university in Shizuoka prefecture.
It is LIVE that we have been particular about from the planning stage. Considering the risks of medical professionals in the new Korona-ka, we decided that direct visits to the school should be avoided, but instead of playing videos or explaining with PowerPoint, deliver the live voice of active doctors as it is. I cherished.
Talk LIVE has been held at large venues with a large number of customers, but the rapidly spreading online technology has opened up new possibilities.
With the desire to provide an inspiring experience that will remain in the hearts of the students and have an impact on the future, the progress of the talk LIVE with the students as the protagonists has been prepared.
Question sheets were distributed to the students in advance, and questions were asked to the instructor and residents. Some questions were asked by many students, such as "How long did you study a day?" And "When and how did you decide to become a doctor?" However, there were some unique questions that I would definitely like to answer, such as "I'm not good at seeing blood. Do you still want to go to the medical field?"
Resident Dr. Kamiya said that he became aspiring to become a doctor under the influence of medical TV dramas in the situation where his parents were doctors. The story of the TV drama was sympathetic to the students. Dr. Kato talked about his valuable experience of taking an entrance examination for medical school with the aim of becoming a doctor, despite having entered a liberal arts university.
Dr. Ohashi, the instructor, and Dr. Kobayashi, the coordinator, gave us hopeful messages about the motivation of the profession as a doctor and how to hold the heart. The voices of the teachers seemed to reach the hearts of the students.
After listening to the teachers' episodes and messages, the students headed to experience medical technology. Kyowa Medical Corporation employee of Kyowa Medical Instruments will guide the students to each experience venue. The first experience is wearing protective clothing. At the same time as thorough infection prevention measures, wearing protective clothing itself is one of the experiences of working in the medical field.
Touch real medical devices and learn from the experience. This is also one of the things that MEDI-Message has cherished. However, infection prevention measures must be taken in order to implement an experiential program in Korona-ka. What is the best solution? We prepared a set of protective clothing for the number of people and decided to reproduce the environment close to the medical field. It is an infection prevention measure not only for direct contact but also for indirect contact with medical devices. Thorough infection prevention measures were taken, such as having completed two vaccinations and making the staff's condition that the PCR test proved negative.
A corner where you can experience the medical technology of the operation is set up in a large classroom on the 6th floor called a high-grade classroom. A suture experience and a laparoscopic surgery training experience were prepared at this venue.
It is suture that many students comment that it was difficult. It is an experience of sewing using a kit that looks like skin and using real threads and needles used in surgery. Professor Kobayashi will also walk around the venue and convey his experience as a surgeon to the students. The facial expressions of the students who were surprised to see the quick movement were very impressive.
The training device called the Laparo Trainer was used for the experience of laparoscopic surgery. The students did the work of holding forceps in both hands and transferring the beads only by looking at the image displayed on the monitor. Through the experience, you will learn what is the difference between laparoscopic surgery and suture surgery, and what advantages and disadvantages each has.
Each corner was devised and rotated so that everyone could experience it even in a limited time. Some students were able to operate it well, while others were not able to operate the forceps as they wished, but it seems that their interest in the work of a doctor has deepened.
Four endoscope systems and five ultrasonic inspection devices were prepared in the library on the 1st floor. The library, which is lined with medical equipment, is like a medical technology training room. The staff who run it will also be able to see how excited the students are.
In the corner where the endoscope is installed, there is an operation experience using a stomach model, an operation experience using a large intestine model, and an operation experience of a function called a water jet that uses water to wash away blood in the wound. it was done.
It is very difficult to move through the pitch-black stomach and large intestine while looking only at the camera image of the endoscope, and the facial expressions of the students naturally become serious. Through experience, you will learn how difficult the doctor is performing and what kind of examinations and procedures can be performed using an endoscope.
A fetal model was prepared for the ultrasonic examination device, and I was able to experience the examinations performed in obstetrics and gynecology. Unlike cameras such as endoscopes, ultrasonic inspection equipment converts ultrasonic signals into images and displays them. It seems that many students were interested in medical equipment by explaining the mechanism using jelly.
We also demonstrated using a 4D ultrasonic inspection device so that you can experience the current advanced medical technology. Echo, which shows the baby's appearance, is a medical device that students can feel close to. Through communication with the students who experienced it, I was able to feel the response that I was able to get interested in various medical techniques and professions.
This time, 210 students from Shizuoka Kita Junior High School attended. But this class isn't just for 210 people. Why do you hold the "MEDI-Message Seminar", what kind of medical professionals' feelings there, and what did the students feel? We must work on the mission of realizing a better medical environment by widely disseminating the events of this day to society.

MEDI-Message, which started in 2008, has a philosophy that leads to the realization of a sustainable medical environment. With the slogan "Making everyone's power into the power of medical care," we will continue to provide opportunities to think about what we can do in medical care and what each person should work on in order to live a healthy life. We will contribute to the creation of a medical environment.
MEDI-Message Seminar Management Staff
I was in charge of the suturing experience corner. It seems that many students struggled with the first suturing experience, but the students who were interested in "The doctor who actually does this work with humans is really amazing!" Were very impressive. I think it was a good experience for the students, but it was also a good experience for me.
Kimika Koizumi (Headquarters: Human Resources and General Affairs Department)
I was in charge of the laparoscopic surgery section, and the students worked very hard. Some groups have experienced the difficulty of working together to proceed with surgery by deciding on an assistant with the surgeon and giving instructions. A student who was interested in a neurosurgeon said that he was more interested in medical care at this MEDI-Message seminar.
As I answered the questions of the students who asked various questions such as "why the gripping forceps have a groove" and "why the scissors are curved", I became less aware as I did my daily work. I was reminded of the various ideas of the medical equipment that had been stored. It was a valuable experience for me, and I hope it will remain in the hearts of the students as a fun experience.
Nao Yamamoto (Yaizu Branch: Area Sales Department)
I was in charge of the experience of endoscopy using a model of the stomach and intestines. The students were very enthusiastic and listened to the explanation of the endoscope. I was very happy that I was interested in the medical equipment that I usually handle.
If anyone is interested in medical care and is advancing into the medical industry with this MEDI-Message, I would be more than happy. I think I was able to help create a chance for my life, though it is a little power.
Kohei Kano (Headquarters: Endoscope Sales Department)
I was in charge of the corner of the ultrasonic inspection equipment. Not only did they use a model of a pregnant woman to echo the baby, but they also used jelly containing fruits to give them a sense of play while experiencing how to use the ultrasonic inspection equipment.
I was able to see many facial expressions of the students who were happy to experience while saying "I want a picture of this fruit!", Which was a lot of fun for me. I hope that the work of a doctor, a clinical laboratory technician, and a radiologist will be one of the options for the future.
Mayo Ono (Headquarters: Imaging Department)
As the teachers and residents said today, it seems that it is necessary to study for a long time of 10 hours or more a day. This experience made me ready to do that.
I wasn't so interested in medical technology until now, but today's experience made me very interested. I want to find out about medical care myself.
I knew that "people who are good at talking to people" are suitable, and while I was thinking about my career path, I decided to include it as one of the options. Doctors were interested in various kinds of work, not all of seeing blood (surgery).
He said that he was happy to see the patients who were discharged from the hospital because he was happy to be a doctor, so I wish he was grateful and the patients he was looking at would be well. I thought. I felt like working at the hospital again.
It was a time when I was able to take up my own questions and became more motivated to pursue the medical path. I felt that I was able to get to know the other side of the people involved in medical care at the talk live, and I was able to feel the support that I had never known before.
This time, I was very embarrassed because I was interviewed when I was moving the beads and when it was over. Today, I made a MEDI-Message and thought that the difficulty of a doctor and the desire to become a doctor became a little stronger.
It was completely different from normal sewing and it didn't go well, so I'm glad that the teacher was with me all the time. I became interested in medical care.
The doctor said that it was a physical fitness game, so I did club activities to improve my physical fitness and slept a lot. I'm glad I had a valuable experience today. A doctor may not be able to do it, but I want to get a job related to medical care.
